Training for Pensions Board and Committee pdf icon PDF 45 KB

Members, the report which was discussed at the December 2015 meeting is circulated again for your information (minus the appendices)

With reference to article 6 of the minute of its previous meeting, the Convener advised that the decision in relation to the training did not stand as it had since been clarified that Board members were not entitled to a vote.  The Committee therefore required to reconsider the matter of the proposed training for members.

The Convener advised that since the last meeting, the Senior Audit Manager had contacted the clerk to request that the March meeting of the Committee and Board be held in Aberdeen and not London.  The Senior Audit Manager had stated that external audit regularly reported to the Pensions Committee as part of the governance role of the Committee.  At the next meeting, a report would be presented in relation to the Audit Plan for the 2015/16 Audit.  In order for external audit to attend that meeting and discuss the plan with members of the Committee, and in order for the public to have the option to observe the Committee, it was requested that the meeting be held in Aberdeen.

It was therefore suggested that a day of training be arranged in Aberdeen for 10 March, with the business meeting of the Pensions Board and Committee to be held in the Town House on 11 March as previously agreed.  It was further suggested that some time (1.5 days) could be arranged in June for members to meet with fund managers in London.

The Committee resolved:-

(i)        to agree that a day of training be held in Aberdeen on 10 March, with the business meeting of the Committee and Board to be held in Aberdeen on 11 March;

(ii)       to agree that a visit to London be arranged for June to enable members to meet with fund managers, with a date to be agreed at the March meeting.

The Board resolved:-

to note the decision of the Pensions Committee.
