Decision:
The Committee resolved:-
(i) notes Aberdeen has retained Purple Flag status for a record seven years in a row;
(ii) notes that Aberdeen is one of three finalists for the prestigious National Purple Flag award within the night time economy category with the winner being decided at the UK and Irelands Association of Town & City Management annual gathering in June 2020;
(iii) notes the decision of the City Growth and Resources Committee on 5th December 2019 regarding the Aberdeen Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP);
(iv) notes the SUMP has not been developed in isolation but in the context of a number of other projects concerning transport in the city centre including ongoing City Centre Masterplan delivery;
(v) notes the SUMP seeks to support the Administrations transition to a low carbon and low emission future as outlined at the budget meeting 3rd March 2020;
(vi) agrees a strategic approach must be adopted by the Council to support city centre living by promoting development of a safe and sustainable city centre which people can access and move around with ease; and
(vii) agrees to wait for the prioritised delivery programme of transport interventions from the Chief Officer Strategic Place Planning and Chief Officer Capital before determining its position on the proposed overnight prohibition of motor vehicles on Justice Mill Lane/Langstane Place/Windmill Brae etc as outlined in the report.
