Minutes:

The Sub Committee had before it the minute of its previous meeting of 1 March 2016.

 

The Sub Committee resolved:

(i)         to note the correction to Mr Hashmi’s job title of Reporting and Monitoring Manager; and

(ii)        to otherwise approve the minute.

Matters Arising

Minutes:

The Sub Committee received a verbal update on progress with regard to the Rickart’s Tomb renovations which advised that listed planning consent for the works had been granted and that the tendering process would now commence.

 

The Sub Committee resolved:

to note the update.

Minutes:

The Sub Committee had before it a report by the Interim Director of Corporate Governance which provided a breakdown of Trust balances as at 31 March 2015.

 

The report recommended:

that the Sub Committee note the content of the report.

 

The Sub Committee resolved:

(i)         to approve the recommendation; and

(ii)        to note that a narrative would be produced for each of the Trusts as part of the governance review.

Minutes:

The Sub Committee had before it a paper by the Lord Dean which sought approval of the process to award funding from the Guildry Awards.

 

The paper explained that the proposal was to offer two awards, one each to an undergraduate study of each of the universities, which would be £2,000 maximum in any one year.

 

The Sub Committee resolved:

(i)         to expand the eligibility criteria to all students wishing to study and live in Aberdeen; to remove the maximum funding limit of £2,000 to reflect an individual’s particular circumstances and to note that unsuccessful candidates would be notified and provided with feedback; and

(ii)        to otherwise approve the process as outlined within the paper.

5.

Restoration of Thomas Blake Glover Family Memorials

Minutes:

The Sub Committee was circulated with a paper which provided background information on the history of Thomas Blake Glover and his work in helping young men from Japan to come to the West for education and highlighted the interest in the Glover Trail by international visitors, including a forthcoming visit by the Mayor of Nagasaki which would likely incorporate a visit to Glover House.

 

The paper outlined three memorials due to be included in the upcoming reprint of the Glover Trail and which were in need of some restoration.  The paper provided a breakdown of the costs to bring the memorials back to a suitable condition, together with a request that this be funded from the Graveyards allocation of funds held by the Trust with the restoration being managed by the Council’s Bereavement Service.

 

The Sub Committee resolved:

to approve funding of £1,518 to restore the three memorials as outlined within the paper, which was £1,821.60 minus VAT which would be claimed back.
